“VOCES” Community magazin

I know someone is going to answer me! I told myself that I was encouraged when four days ago I stopped on the sidewalk in front of the Pikleweed Park in the community of Canal in San Rafael. I wanted to interview the people in the community to tell them about my project and to know what they thought about it. Talking to people closely, knowing what they think, exchanging information, listening to what they would like to know; Shake hands with the goodbye and share a smile, are part of the things I like to start this project. At the end I felt happy, full of positive energy and it was when I asked myself: “Why do we have to hide our faces because if we are decent, hardworking and honest people?” Thanks to all the women, girls, boys and men who offered me their Time and your valuable opinion!

What do you think about having a community magazine on the internet and what topics would you like us to talk about?

Sandra, Guatemalan. “Well that’s good because so one can be more connected between the same community, know what is happening. The issue of immigration is very interesting to understand what is going to happen and how to prepare, we are immigrants and we have children too, more than anything for the children that would be theirs. I am a housewife”.

Andrea, Argentina. “It would be a good idea because until today there is not one for Latinos. Obviously the first serious issue on migration, but also health and for children on education. I’m a babysitter, I’m 17 years old here. ”

Mercedes, Salvadoran visiting the USA. “I see a lot of things that are against immigrants and I think a newspaper is good to find out how things are in the community, I have a daughter here and I’m visiting.”

Aracely, Mexican, 10 years living in the United States, works in a restaurant. “I think it might work to know what’s going on in the community. I would like to talk about jobs, and the school system. “

Willie, Guatemalan, 14 years in the USA. “I think it would be great because many like to walk on their phones and then it would be very useful to know what is happening in the community. Many people like sports that would be a good topic, the news things that happen and that can affect the community like for example when there are raids, when there are police controls to make sure not to walk driving taken. Many of my neighbors have taken away the car for not having licenses, although the licenses are now in effect in California would be very interesting to be informed about it, talk about political issues that affect us, it would be useful to inform us of the laws each time. I work in a pizzeria. “

Jose, Nicaraguan, builder, 16 years in the USA. “I think it can be useful for people who want to be informed. Subjects such as high rents, people who hurt others who break glass, steal; Issues of laws to be informed, to understand them and to know the consequences would be good for the benefit of the community. “
